Talking Hip-Hop with Isaac Montano

I edited and mixed a full podcast episode of The Green Room featuring Isaac Montano, an emerging hip-hop producer whose sound uses modern techniques to achieve an old school Hip-Hop sound. The episode dives into his musical influences, creative mindset, and beat-making process, giving listeners insight into how their favorite Hip-Hop tracks are made. A standout moment includes a live production demo where Isaac makes a beat from scratch with just his laptop and a MIDI keyboard, offering a behind-the-scenes look at his workflow.

For post-production, I used Adobe Premiere Pro for initial editing and structuring, then refined the audio in Pro Tools to achieve a polished, professional sound. My focus was on ensuring clean, intelligible dialogue by removing background noise, minimizing distractions, and applying EQ and compression where needed. I carefully balanced volume levels between speaking segments and the live demo to maintain consistency throughout. Additionally, I paid close attention to pacing and transitions, shaping an engaging listening flow that keeps the audience immersed from start to finish.

Elevated Minds

I helped produce an original West Coast 90s-inspired hip-hop track titled “Elevated Minds,” using AI as a creative tool to turn a musical idea into a fully realized piece. The process began with identifying which sound we wanted through reference tracks, and we landed on a West Coast G-funk beat with a laid-back vibe. From there, I wrote and refined the lyrics to ensure they sat naturally within the rhythm of the beat, paying close attention to cadence, timing, and flow so that each bar aligned seamlessly with the instrumental.

To enhance the production, our team incorporated custom drum samples to give the track a more punchy, analog sound. We also added a synth lead that adds that classic West Coast character. During the mixing stage, I balanced all elements including vocals, drums, and instrumentation to achieve a well-balanced mix. Finally, we completed mastering to ensure the track meets industry standards, resulting in a polished, distribution-ready record suitable for streaming platforms.
